New Year, New Blog

Hello and welcome to my new blog. This is where I'll be sharing my news, views and ponderings on all things creative, particularly relating to fibre, stitch and yarn.

This time of year provides a great opportunity for reflection and also making resolutions for the coming year. March 2012 saw the departure of our much loved 18 year old moggy Pushkin. Whilst this was obviously a very sad loss, it did inspire me to make this felted wall hanging in his memory.

Full Sun or Partial Shade
photo that provided my source of inspiration

The title 'full sun or partial shade ' refers to both the plant, but also Pushkin who loved to toast himself in the sun, retreating to the shrubbery when it got a bit too hot for comfort. You can read more about making this piece  here and here.

Copy cats or what?!

May saw the arrival of brother and sister team, Charlie & Millie, from our local Cat's Protection Adoption Centre.

We are adjusting very well to our new cat owners who I'm sure will be making the occasional appearance in posts to come!

One of my resolutions last year was to lose weight and get fitter - nothing new there I guess, but this year I actually achieved it! There's certainly still room for improvement but in July I ran my first 5k at Race for Life (when I say run, think brisk stagger!!) This was a great experience and I felt a sense of real achievement and empowerment - I've never been the sporty type and if you'd have told me this time last year that I would be going running I'd never have believed you.

July was the month of 'firsts' for me I think as I also attended the  Textile Study Group's Summer School considering 'The Puzzle of Colour' with the wonderful Ruth Issett which I'll tell you more about later. Another July 'first' was helping set up a local creative textiles group called Stitches Coven. We meet up most thursday evenings and it's lovely to share a passion with others who share this 'illness'!!

As for resolutions for 2013, I've learned it's more useful to focus on what I want to do, rather than what I'm going to stop doing!! And also keeping it simple - in fact that's one of my resolutions. The other 2 are to carry on living more healthily, and DO more creative stuff instead of just thinking about it!!

Thanks to anyone reading for dropping by - I hope you have a great 2013 and that you achieve whatever you set out to do.
